Grade-Level Assessments of Preparedness and Course-Level Readiness Tests

MDTP grade-level and course-level diagnostic assessments are designed to measure mastery levels in foundational topic areas that are necessary for students’ success for grade-level or course-level content.  MDTP diagnostic tests inform students’ mathematical preparation for the content in the grade or course-level students are entering, and/or to inform students’ preparation for the mathematical content in the grade or course they are promoting to. 

The diagnostic results should be used formatively to: understand students' strengths and areas of unfinished learning, inform instruction and interventions, evaluate course readiness, measure program growth, and identify appropriate professional learning.

MDTP tests can be administered any time throughout the school year and are available in both paper form and on the MDTP Online Testing platform.


MDTP has a full selection of released aligned to the California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CA-CCSSM) curriculum expectations.

MDTP continues to field-test two tests: the Assessment for Preparedness for Grade 6 Mathematics and the Mathematical Analysis Readiness Test for students entering precalculus or math analysis coursework.

In Fall 2019, MDTP released the Algebra 1/Integrated 1 Readiness, Geometry Readiness, and Second Year Algebra Readiness.

Assessment of Preparedness for 6th Grade Mathematics Field Test

This is a diagnostic field test to assess students' preparedness in foundational topics necessary for success in a California Common Core Grade 6 mathematics course. Field-testing should occur in Grade 6 classrooms.

The Prealgebra Readiness (PR40A04) has been replaced by the MDTP Grade-Level Assessments for students enterring grades 6-8. Teachers may continue to use the PR with the understanding that it is not aligned to California Common Core curricular expectations for middle school mathematics courses.

The Algebra Readiness (AR45A10) has been replaced by the Algebra 1/Integrated Math 1 Readiness Test (AMR45A19) which is aligned to the CA-CCSSM. Teachers may continue to use the AR45A10 with the understanding that it is not aligned to California Common Core curricular expectations for entry-level high school mathematics courses.
