Teachers and schools and districts can now administer some MDTP tests online via Daskala and have immediate access to data and more detail than can be presented in printed reports. Online reporting provides an opportunity for teachers, schools, and districts by providing data that can be sorted and viewed in the order preferred by the user. MDTP online reports include the ability to drill down to details not previously available in a short amount of time. This enables schools and districts to review increased quantities of data in less time than needed for printed reports.

These electronic reports facilitate individual and collaborative analysis of diagnostic test results to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses. Electronic reporting both reduces the time to get test results back to teachers and schools, and may reduce the time teachers and administrators need to review the diagnostic reports.

MDTP site directors are looking forward to working with teachers to help them make effective use of this new tool; as always, they are available to visit schools and districts to look at the test results.

How to Purchase Daskala Access and Order Logins
California schools can access computer-delivered MDTP tests and results either as part of a full subscription to the Daskala platform or by ordering limited Daskala services directly through MDTP.

In the former case, computer-delivered MDTP tests and results will be included at no additional charge; in addition, teachers will automatically receive MDTP printed test results reports from MDTP. For more information about becoming a Daskala subscriber, please contact Daskala directly.

Schools or districts that are only interested in using Daskala to administer MDTP tests and access MDTP test results need to purchase access to Daskala through MDTP. The fee collected is for the added technology and service provided by Daskala to deliver the tests and results via computer.

The cost of accessing MDTP through Daskala is $1 per test administered up to a maximum of $3 per student tested each academic year. For example, if a teacher chose to administer an MDTP test in the Fall and administer an MDTP test in the Spring to a class of 30 students, the cost would be $60. On the other hand, if the teacher chose to administer MDTP tests four times to a class of the same 30 students, twice in the Fall and twice in the Spring, the cost would be $90.

Prepayment for a quantity of student test administrations is required before MDTP will issue student user names and passwords (registrations). The prepayments may be made with district/school purchase orders or checks. The count of registrations used will be charged against the quantity of registrations purchased. Any purchased registrations not used will be credited to the following year.

The check or purchase order should be payable to the Regents of the University of California and must be sent to:
Attn: MDTP
University of California, San Diego
9500 Gilman Dr. #0112
La Jolla, CA 92093-0112

For questions or vendor information contact:

As soon as MDTP has received a check or purchase order, personalized student registrations and test administrations may be requested by teachers or schools. To request the registrations, teachers or schools must submit their student identification data electronically in class lists, preferably using the MDTP template (Excel), a comma separated text file (csv), or a tab separated text file (txt).

The required information for each class includes:

Optional information for each student includes:

Within three working days, MDTP will return the class lists along with a user name and password assigned to each student. In addition, the following documents will be sent:

Use of a backup user name may be charged against the quantity of registrations purchased by the school of district. If a backup registration is used in place of an assigned registration and the assigned registration is not used, then there will not be an additional charge against the quantity purchased.

Teachers must document the use of backup registrations and report the actual student names to MDTP. Test results for any student who uses a backup login will not be included in the test result reports until MDTP has updated the student record in Daskala.

About Online Test Results Reports.

Each teacher will be given a login and instructions for accessing the test results reports for his or her classes. The teacher will need to first select the test in the Exam Summary Window. Next, he or she will select the class or classes to view in the Select Criteria pane; the results for selected classes will be aggregated. After these selections have been made, the teacher will need to “Submit” them by clicking on that button at the bottom of the pane.

At this point, any report screen can be viewed by selecting the appropriate tab. The first, second, third, and fifth tabs present the same data as in MDTP’s printed test result reports.

Teachers can re-sort most of the data and can drill down to view details, such as which students selected a given response to a question or displaying the question and distribution of the class's responses.

The online presentation of the test results is modeled after MDTP printed reports. Teachers can immediately access detailed data from almost any screen.

The fourth tab presents a summary of the average amount of time students spent viewing each item. Teachers have found considering how much time students spent on questions they answered correctly—as well as on questions they missed—helpful. The chart includes a 100% stacked column chart presenting the distribution of responses for each question. Hovering over a column displays the average viewing time at the top. Clicking on a segment displays a list of the students who selected the corresponding option. Clicking on an item number displays the item.

Access to the online reports allows teachers and school to:

MDTP’s online test result reports facilitate the diagnostic use of test results not only by teachers working individually but also by teachers collaborating to help each other address some of the important mathematical needs of their students. For example, each teacher might be viewing the results for his or her classes while a facilitator presents the aggregated results for a school; the teachers could then compare their approaches to teaching the concepts and skills that are needed to understand and solve a problem well. This kind of collaboration based on current student work exemplifies the data-driven decision making that lies at the heart of formative assessment to improve student learning.

Administration of Computer-delivered Tests.
The tests may only be administered in school on Monday through Saturday between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm. Students will not be allowed to login after 5:30 pm. Special requests for administrations at other times must be made at least one week before the administration.

Students in a class can start taking a test within a two-week interval. This interval starts when the first student in the class logs in to the Daskala system and clicks on "Take Exam" at the bottom of the Instructions page.
When any student first logs in to the Daskala system, and clicks on "Take Exam" at the bottom of the Instructions page, that student's user name and password will be activated for eight days. If necessary, a student may log out without submitting responses in order to continue taking the test at a later date (within that eight day interval).
When a student clicks on "Submit Exam", the selected responses to the questions are submitted, the test is scored, and the student loses access to the test.
