MDTP Test Results Dissemination Policy
February 2006
MDTP tests were developed primarily to provide diagnostic information to teachers and students in a classroom setting. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that teachers and others understand that the materials are provided for use at teachers’ discretion and that results will be used only with their knowledge and never to evaluate teachers. We are sensitive to possible misinterpretations of test results. We also want to protect good uses from expanding into inappropriate uses such as assessments of teacher performance.
MDTP tests administered in California precollegiate schools should always be scored by MDTP sites. Each teacher should receive the results for each class scored. MDTP encourages teachers to distribute the student report sheets to the students and to review the class results to help identify and develop instructional objectives and strategies. Within this context, MDTP is willing to work with districts on requests concerning the nature of aggregate results.
Increasing numbers of schools and districts are requesting detailed MDTP test data in electronic form in order to provide teachers with historical data on their students and to provide districts with information to inform professional development activities and curriculum assessment. Technologies that facilitate such uses of MDTP data are now readily available. In view of these requests and technologies, MDTP is developing the capability to respond positively to such requests when time and resources permit. The data will be provided only after teachers have received MDTP’s traditional test result reports for their classes since the primary goal of MDTP remains to provide classroom teachers with diagnostic information about their students and classes.
MDTP will try to fulfill requests for electronic data when the intended uses support improving student opportunities to learn mathematics. When districts request detailed MDTP test data, MDTP will ask them to inform teachers. MDTP may deny requests that appear inconsistent with MDTP goals. Site directors will refer any requests that might be inconsistent with MDTP goals to the MDTP Director’s Office for review by the Chair of the workgroup and the Director.
MDTP will inform teachers who use its scoring services that their students’ and classes’ test result data may be provided to their school or district in accordance with this policy.
